A scary moment on a Disney Cruise Line ship turned into a heart-stopping rescue. A child reportedly went overboard, and her dad jumped in right after her.

Emergency Overboard Response

The incident happened on June 29 as the Disney Dream was making its way back to Fort Lauderdale after a four‑night trip to the Bahamas, including a stop at Disney’s Lookout Cay at LighthousePoint. When the emergency code “Mr. M.O.B.” (man overboard) announced over the intercom, the crew sprang into action. According to a Disney Cruise Line spokesperson, “The crew aboard the Disney Dream swiftly rescued two guests from the water,” as shared with USA TODAY. “We applaud our Crew Members for their amazing skills and quick actions, ensuring both guests made it back to the ship safely within minutes. Our top priority is the safety and well‑being of our guests, and this event shows how effective our safety procedures are.”

People on social media described the lightning‑fast response of the crew, who threw life preservers and launched a rescue boat in no time. In a Facebook post, passenger Kevin Furuta said, “A girl fell overboard from the 4th deck & her dad went in after her … Fortunately, the DCL rescue team responded immediately, and both were saved!” Though some thought the rescue might have happened while docked, passengers confirmed it took place while the Disney Dream was sailing between The Bahamas and Florida. Reports say the child fell from Deck 4, which has a walking path, though it’s unclear how she fell despite the ship’s plexiglass safety barriers.

Just like other top cruise lines, Disney ships have overboard detection systems that alert the crew right away in such situations. “It was the last day of our Dream voyage and an at‑sea day,” posted Kevin Furuta on Facebook. “A girl fell overboard from the 4th deck & her dad went in after her. Right afterward, we heard on the loudspeaker ‘MOB Port side!!’ Thankfully the DCL rescue team acted quickly, and both were saved!”

Another passenger, Shannon Pechaek Lindholm, shared a photo of the rescue boat and said, “This was the boat that went in and brought them BOTH back safely.” She also remarked, “DCL for the win! It was a super quick rescue—a double miracle!”

Facebook user Tiffany Craven responded, “That's terrifying!!! But so glad there was a happy ending. Makes me nervous for my 4‑year‑old now though!” “It's a miracle they are both OK, especially if the ship was moving,” posted Sam Gerber. “Awesome rescue!” India Aimery added, “Having been on several Disney ships, it's tough to just fall overboard unless you’re climbing or trying to on purpose. I’m so relieved they are OK.”

Launched in 2011, the Disney Dream is one of the biggest in the Disney Cruise Line fleet, with room for up to 4,000 passengers.
